About Me

Me with hat and chickens
Hi everyone, my name is Valerie Ma and I’m a recently-turned-20 student at UBC, Canada, whose primary interests in life include travel, gaming, and art of all kinds. As part of a “Go Global” program with my university, I was sent to Uganda for 6 weeks to participate in “rural literacy education” there – ie, helping out in a village library and around the community. For those who may be familiar with Uganda, I was based in Busolwe, a village about 50km from Mbale, approximately in between Mbale and Tororo. For the remaining two weeks of my “holiday” in Africa, I traveled widely within Uganda, first with two other students, then alone.
I am an extremely enthusiastic and sometimes quite adventurous traveler. My ambition right now is to eventually travel to every country in the world – or at least 100 or so of them. I want to see everything there is to possibly see within my limits. So far I have traveled to 23 countries and visited over 150 cities, mainly in N America, Asia and Europe, but I’m soon hoping to extend my ambitions to every continent and to spend more time living in each place as opposed to simply experiencing for a few days.
This Uganda Blog is my first blog ever and I’m sure there are a lot of hitches already, but I hope you enjoy it and please make sure to comment. Check out my “How to View” page for more info on how this blog is meant to be properly viewed, since I know it is a little confusing as it is!
